Rackwise Equipment Library Support Policy

This Rackwise Equipment Library Support Policy defines the responsibilities of Visual Network Design, Inc., also known as VND or Rackwise, in supporting Customer requests for additions to the Rackwise Equipment Library. VND reserves the right to modify or amend the following policy at any time without prior consent from current VND customers.

Definitions:

  • Rackwise Library:  The collection of product data records, Visio Shapes and corresponding image files.
  • Data Center Equipment:  Racks, Servers, Switches, Routers, Power Equipment and other computer and communications hardware typically installed in Data Centers and Computer rooms.
  • OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer – the companies that actually manufacturer and brand the equipment – to the exclusion of resellers.
  • Custom Equipment:  Custom Equipment are for software never available on the general market and not widely used in Data Centers/Computer Rooms.  Examples include one-of-a-kind items, or special items not generally found in Data Centers.
  • Obsolete Equipment:  Products that the OEMs have withdrawn from the market and no longer manufacture and sell.  Also known as End-of-Life or Discontinued products.

Additions to the VND/Rackwise Library:

Customers are responsible for providing sufficient equipment information for VND to correctly support addition requests to the Rackwise Library. The information needed for each requested device is:

  • Manufacturer
  • Model Number
  • Generation (if applicable)
  • Product Support URL (if available)
  • Equipment configuration as appropriate (e.g.; Rackmount, Standalone, Desktop, Tower)
  • Indicate any specific components needed.

VND will make a best effort to update the Rackwise Library with Data Center Equipment currently offered by top-tier OEMs, such as: Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, Dell, IBM and Sun Microsystems as new equipment by these OEMs becomes available.

VND will add support to the Rackwise Library for Data Center equipment currently offered by OEMs upon customer request at our discretion per this policy.  We will make a best effort to honor equipment requests but reserve the right to decline to add equipment support to the Rackwise Library when it is unlikely that they would be used by other VND customers. There are specific policies for Obsolete Equipment, Custom Equipment, Rebranded Products and Desktop computers/non-Rack-Mounted (Standalone equipment):

VND will not normally add Obsolete Equipment products to the Rackwise Library.  We will make a best effort to add such equipment where it is likely such products remain in widespread use in Data Centers. Customers can purchase the addition of Obsolete Equipment products to the Rackwise Library for a fee to be negotiated between VND and the customer. VND reserves the right to refuse to add Obsolete Equipment.

VND will not add Custom Equipment products to the Rackwise Library.  Customers are encouraged to use the extensive collection of equipment we have under the Manufacturer “Generic”.  For items not in the Data Center Equipment category (furniture, for example) customers are encouraged to use the native shapes that come with Visio.

Rebranded Products:  VND does not replace or modify equipment already in our Library because of changes in branding or product colors.  Due to corporate mergers and product line acquisitions it is not unusual for certain product models to have modifications to their appearance, including Manufacturer logos, product colors and bezel/cover styles.  We will only add new equipment if the form of product is modified to a degree that changes in physical properties such as dimensions or the layout of component slots or connectors/ports result (such cases will normally result in the OEM assigning new part/model numbers).

Desktop computers and other non-Rack-Mounted (Standalone equipment):  Customers are encouraged to use the collection of such equipment we have under the Manufacturer “Generic”, even if such standalone equipments do not exactly match the products in the their data centers.  Also, we will not add additional equipment support for existing standalone products simply because the equipment orientation (e.g. a desktop computer that is placed on its side).  VND will add currently offered desktop equipment at our discretion and reserves the right to refuse to add non-Rack-Mounted equipment.

Additions to the Rackwise Library are normally accomplished within 30 days after they are requested by the customer.

VND Support will provide the requesting Customer with a delivery estimate of the updated Rackwise Library once the request has been processed and approved.
